We’re really chuffed to see that our Brixton Fightback fundraising concert has made the front page of the South London Press.
The show this Thursday (11th June) brings together a bill of fantastic acts with strong connections to the area, including ALABAMA 3 and the FAT WHITE FAMILY, plus LARA LEE + POTENT WHISPER, MISTY MILLER and ESE, and DJs from Brixton’s Offline Club and Handson Family.
All profits to the show will be going to local housing campaigners fighting to save their homes – read more here.
You can BUY TICKETS HERE (£15+ booking fee) or it’s £20 on the door on the night – but be advised that tickets are selling fast so we can’t guarantee entry on the night.
Here’s some more details about the line up:
“The best live band in the country” – The Guardian
“This is the first band I could ever dance to in the daytime hours without chemical assistance… and that says a lot.” Irvine Welsh – Author of Trainspotting and Filth
Brixton cult legends the Alabama 3 play ‘Sweet Mutherf*cking Country Acid House music,’ and have long been one of the most exciting and innovative bands on the live circuit. Best known internationally for supplying the theme to the American TV series ‘The Sopranos’ with their song ‘Woke Up This Morning,’ the band’s electric live performances have made them essential fixtures on the festival circuit.
Fresh from an exhilarating performance on the prestigious David Letterman Show in the US, the Fat White’s wild and anarchic live performances have become the stuff of legend. Described by the NME as “The most dangerous band in Britain,” you can expect one hundred percent pure, unadulterated, in your face rock and roll.
She’s still only 21, but south Londoner Misty Miller references a rich treasure trove of alt/new wave influences like Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Blondie, PJ Harvey, White Stripes and The Stooges to create a powerful, passionate, spiky, original set. Channelling raw, emotive intensity with a fistful of attitude and wit, the Sony-signed Miller has toured with Jake Bugg, Television and has a new album out in the summer.
United in a powerful video celebrating the recent Reclaim Brixton event, activist and rapper Potent Whisper will be performing with Lara Lee, star of BBC1’s The Voice.
Often seen busking outside Brixton tube, Ese is a fast rising new star, blending in elements of Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone and Skunk Anansie.
DJs
On the decks will be DJs from the Offline Club, which is now one of Brixton’s longest running club nights: Ms Jizzy Rascal, DJ Editor and Ben ‘Port, and the Handson Family.
