Ahead of their major headline show at the Brixton Fightback concert on Thursday 11th June, local band Alabama 3 have posted up a statement about why they feel the gig is important, and what Brixton means to them.
Advance tickets for the 11th June show at the Electric Brixton – which also features the Fat White Family and Misty Miller – can be bought online here, or it’s £20 on the door on the night.
Here’s the Alabama 3 message in full:
Bruthas and sistas,
Our city needs us.
The rising rents and social housing situation, is at crisis point in Brixton. It’s forcing our much loved community out of their homes.
Whose got the keys to the mansion on the hill? We ain’t!
Love turns a house into a home and homes into a community, and everybody has the right to build a community where they can feel love, not the lusts of landlords and property developers and speculators.
So what we gonna do?
Join us, Fat White Family, Misty Miller, Potent Whisper, Lara Lee and Ese Music at the Electric, Brixton on June 11th to stand in solidarity and raise money for the cause! Tickets here:http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/event/XUL1106
Lord knows as musicians, we owe a lot to this place. Brixton’s always been the place that let us be ourselves and from that freedom, a lot grew. Brixton breathed air into our lungs and put courage in our hearts. We’ve all partied in its streets, woken up in its doorways, and generally made too much noise, but it kept serving us, when no one else would.
We’re feeling a pretty legendary night is at hand, hope to see you there too.
